This recipe book is a bit unique in that it's also a bit of a historical document. My mother-in-law left us two small wooden boxes when she died in 2009. They are a treasure trove of great, mostly handwritten recipes from decades ago. Well used and given to Elaine by friends and family, these recipes have been transcribed exactly as they were written.

In some cases this makes for a challenge to the modern baker. Ingredients and instructions are just as they were more than fifty years ago (liquid fat anyone?). In some cases these recipes are just a list of ingredients with no other instructions whatsoever! Those recipes make this more like a mystery novel.

All these hark back to a simpler time and hopefully you'll find a new family favorite in these pages. Try a few and enjoy time in the kitchen with your kids, your siblings or your friends...or all of them at once!

Not necessarily a cookbook, but a great walk down memory lane. And a great way to test your skills in the kitchen. If you can decipher the missing parts, you'll have some delightful eats.
This is a decent collection of old receipts - recipes as we used to write them down. Funny how what seems so obvious when you write it becomes a mystery to the next generation. The Patty Shell Waf-l-ette (several available on Amazon) is a timbale/rosette maker tool. I still have one of these. Basically, you make the batter, heat up some oil, heat the tool in the oil, then dip in the batter and back in the oil. They are delicious! Very light and airy. Here's a recipe: [...] I had lost my recipe and instructions, so just for this it was worth coming across this book.
All that said, it would be a better book if the author had added more personal anecdotes, or did some research on the recipes for cooking times, etc. It's not that hard to find.

This is a case where the author inherited her mother-in-law's recipes and decided to publish them, with no commentary at all. Nothing about why these recipes were special, when and where they were first made or became a family tradition. Not worth the time it took to download - I downloaded, read and deleted from my in less than 5 minutes. Waste of time.
